The Foundation
The Stiftung Kunst und Natur (Art and Nature Foundation) combines art, nature and culture at two special locations: in Nantesbuch in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps and at the Museum Sinclair-Haus in Bad Homburg.
It offers space for encounters, dialogue and new perspectives on nature and society. There is a special focus on the protection of living soils – with cultural events, research, information exchange and the Forum Nantesbuch as an international network for responsible soil use.
Nantesbuch
In Nantesbuch, located approximately 40 kilometres south of Munich, the Foundation connects culture and nature together directly on site. Events, festivals, workshops and tours bring people together and open up perspectives on art, landscapes and society.
At the same time, the Foundation cultivates a site measuring 320 hectares: bogs are rewetted, forests and meadows are renatured, habitats for biodiversity are created. Guests can experience the site at events and open fora; researchers use it as a Living Laboratory.
Museum Sinclair-Haus
The Museum Sinclair-Haus in Bad Homburg has been part of the Stiftung Kunst und Natur since 2017.
It is the only art museum in Germany that focuses on nature. In changing exhibitions, the museum connects art, nature and science. It depicts nature as a living, complex and multilayered world – and invites visitors to expand their own awareness.
Founder and Director
Susanne Klatten founded the Stiftung Kunst und Natur in 2012 with the aim of providing space for encounters between people, nature and culture.
The Foundation protects natural livelihoods, fosters biodiversity and provides opportunities for cultural exchange. It is intended to be a fertile ground for ideas, dialogue and collaborative action. In addition to the program of events, the Forum Nantesbuch is a supporting pillar of this mission: it combines activities related to soil, landscapes, biodiversity and sustainable cultivation and connects concrete actions on site through dialogue, knowledge transfer and networking.
“Every action on the part of our guests, partners and participants shapes what happens here – and opens up opportunities to create something valuable together.”
On 1 February 2025, Susanne Klatten took over management of the Stiftung Kunst und Natur alongside Lorenz Wagner, who has accompanied her as a spokesperson for many years and helped shape the work of the Foundation.
