Root2Fork
Root2Fork is a European collaborative project that brings agriculture, cuisine and society closer together. On agroforestry sites, rows of fruit and quince trees are combined with perennial edible plants such as spinach, cabbage and arugula, as well as shrubs and perennial plants.
The approach is being tested in four European countries: Portugal, Germany, Finland and Norway. The project looks at the entire chain “from root to fork” – from cultivation and processing to use and short supply chains that bring food to the table.
The aim is to explore multilayered agroforestry systems as a building block for future-proof and resilient agriculture, while promoting soil health and biodiversity.
The Foundation Kunst und Natur is a project partner and is responsible for knowledge transfer and communication. It also operates the German experimental site in Nantesbuch. Here, the practical testing of a new multilayered agroforestry system is combined with educational and cultural programs. The findings are integrated into the Forum Nantesbuch, discussed with experts from science and practice, and made accessible and tangible for agriculture, gastronomy, education and the wider public.
Root2Fork is a European collaborative project of the AGROECOLOGY Partnership, led by the Technical University of Munich. The project launched in April 2026.
